I have pretty much run the gauntlet of the world of razor blades. Having a stubborn thick beard with hair that changes directions in a circular motion on opposite sides of my neck has been brutal. I constantly have had to deal razor burn and rashes. As a general rule, I have preferred the Feathers most of all blades despite the slight burning sensation in my world of shaving evils it was a small price to pay for an otherwise clean shave (most of the time). I bought a mixed pack of razors last year and after having gone through all the Feathers, Merkurs, Personas and others I left the Derbys for last having the lowest expectations. The second the blade touched my skin, I knew I was going to hate it...the blade made the usual cutting noise however at a higher volume and I felt pain on my beard as if there was considerable tugging going on. I re-applied shaving cream and some more warm water and continued to shave through the pain. As I washed off I noticed that I had gotten one of the closest shaves in months and was surprised to feel little to no irritation. What was even more surprising was that there was NO RASH on either side of neck. My 2nd go at the blade was last night, and again I had to squint to deal with the pain of the razor cutting through the hair (this never happened with Personas or Feathers). I finished off the shave washed up and like magic my face looks like I am 12 again. I am pleasantly surprised by this blade and if it continues to give me a clean neck without rashes or bumps I will tolerate the pain during shaving. Conclusion: Performance may vary on your beard or pain threshold but the results are Magic. Although I cannot speak to their durability this gives me a shave as close as any Feather and I have been through well over 50 Feathers, blows out the Personas and shouldn't even be in the same sentence as Merkurs.

I received a multipack of different brands and found Derby to be the best for my beard. I can get ~2 dozen shaves from each blade as my beard is not real heavy. There are some many different types of blades and I believe the right blade depends on several things - your razor, technique, soap, and facial preparation. I prepare by soaking my beard with a hot washcloth and rub coconut oil on sensitive areas. I then use Proraso soap. Shave with short, repeat strokes and re-lather frequently with the non-shaving hand.

These, IMHO, are the best value in DE razor blades out there. I think they are better than the Merkurs, and although not as sharp as the Feathers, they are not as harsh. I use them in my slant and they preform in excellent fashion. Easily my favorite blade.

These razor blands are not outstanding. They work well and cut fairly close, but aren't much better then drugstore brand blades. The price per blade is slightly better then most drugstore brand blades, minus shipping charges.
