Great place to start

I'm another newbie to DE shaving and started with the 33c after looking over many of the options available. While I get the occasional nick, I find it is more likely my lack of prep than the instrument itself. You can't go wrong with the 33c.

I was a little nervous during the first shave since it was my first attempt with a safety razor. I took my time, and enjoyed the entire shave without a cut or razor burn. The key is taking it slow, going old school with a good lather, and having a good shave.

I just recieved my Merkur razor and its great. It goes to show that more blades doesnt always mean a better shave. Its a nice product and replacement blades are no where near as expensive as some of the cartridge razors. Its also a nice product to own, it looks great in the medicine cabinet and a classic addition to any sink. I love things with a retro flare and i beleve you will too.

The 33c is amazing! It's light, gives a close shave also less irritation!! It's perfect!

While the 33 is probably the Merkur least surrounded by myth and folklore, it is my favorite razor. It is light and perfectly balanced, enabling incredible control and precision. It is literally an extension of your fingers. I have never used another razor which has permitted the kind of direct communication between hand and facial skin the way the 33 does. It is like a well designed automobile in which the true connoisseur understands that superior handling, the true joy of driving, is very much more a matter of balance, suspension, steering and tires than it is a matter of horsepower. By comparison, the much championed 34 in fact is bottom heavy, which certainly is of no help and the 23, because of its longer handle, has a feeling of shaving by remote control. Neither offer the directness, the intimacy of my beloved 33. It dances!
