Product Description

This razor is considered by many to be the standard for double-edge razors.  The 34C has a short-length handle with a larger diameter giving it a hefty feel in your hand while shaving. The added weight and short handle provide a good balance to comfortably achieve the proper cutting angle. It shaves well for all skin types and better than any new modern brands. Very heavy duty. Uses any double edge razor blades. Chrome Finish.

This razor is also featured in the Ultimate Double Edge Setup.

  1. Great Razor

Posted by Unknown on 4th Jan 2010

This was my first time trying a DE after years of using disposables. At first I was discouraged because wetshaving did take a bit longer, and I thought maybe I was overhyping the whole thing. I made the mistake of going back to the disposable for a shave and although it was quicker, the irritation was crazy. With this Merkur, I have little to no irritation after a shave.

  2. The Thieving Magpie

Posted by Chris Kavanaugh on 30th Nov 2009

Set a Merkur next to a plastic disposable. It's not unlike a Mercedes gullwing with lots of crome parked next to a silver painted plastic Toyota ( mine) of today. So, which one will a Magpie fly out the window with ( wieght aside?)
And with minimal care what will LAST in our throwaway culture?
Oh, the above performance reviews are also true.

  3. Simply the BEST!

Posted by Rob on 9th Nov 2009

It's incredible how a DE razor is sooo much better than any cheap 3-5 blade disposable razor. I always thought that more blades mean a better shave....BOY was I wrong! And the good thing is, from now on I'm paying $6 for ten blades, not $30 for a 8-pack Fusion blades. I truly recommend the 34C!

  4. I should have had this all along!

Posted by Richinflorida on 3rd Nov 2009

I can't tell you if the other "more advanced" Merkur razors are better, but I love my first and so far only DE razor by Merkur. I was a little scared after reading about the "learning curve" with DE razors. To be honest, it's no big deal at all. It has a different feel, but you will like it better than the multi blade rip-offs very quickly. It has a heavy, sturdy feeling in your hand. Pair this with a good brush, Proraso cream, and Feather razors, you'll enjoy shaving instead of dreading it.

  5. Safety razor with attitude

Posted by Stanley on 4th Sep 2009

This is the first time that I have bought a safety razor that I can actually keep. A long time ago, I had disposable safety razors which you could just use, and throw away. But now, with this one I get not only genuine quality but a smooth shave each and every time. I just ordered my razor last sunday and received it yesterday, I can't wait to use it and see how it feels especially with the personna blades that I ordered.

  6. OUTSTANDING

Posted by VDUB on 6th Aug 2009

I got this razor on Monday 8/3 and am absolutely amazed. I haven't used a safety razor in years and now have to ask why I used those "improved systems" for the last several years. I am hooked again and will NOT EVER go back. This razor is so easy to use, no cuts or nicks yet. I want to try the Feathers but will practice a bit more first. Lee's is the BEST!!

  7. 110 % satisified.

Posted by Daniel on 23rd Jun 2009

I love my new 34C Merkur HD straight bar. I had the basic Merkur for about 4 years and wanted the heavy duty version. For all you newbies to D.E. shaving, please pay the 10 extra dollars and buy the heavy duty Merkur instead of the basic version. Also, use Feather blades instead of Merkur. Near perfect combination.

  8. I can't wait to shave again tomorrow

Posted by Michael in South Windsor, CT on 24th May 2009

I just received my first Merkur Safety razor, shaving brush and Paraso shaving soap. I hadn't shaved all week anticipating my first shave with this type of razor. It is the most comfortable and closest shave I have ever had. I can't wait to shave again tomorrow. I used to cut myself with popular triple blade razors due to my sharp and angled feature of my chin. With the Merkur I couldn't even feel the blade. After my old shaves my skin was irritated being the reason to try the safety razor. With the Merkur my face is nice and smooth with no irritation. And the cooling effect of the soap was nice. No more substandard shave for me.

  9. The ONE!!!

Posted by Chris on 10th Feb 2009

I have researched and tryed every razor on the market and could not get a good shave with it. I constantly had irritation and razor burn nicks all of the things you hear about. I started to look into DE and ended up calling Lee and he suggested the above razor for Beginers. All I can say is " HIGH FIVE TO LEE"!The BEST shave ever, bar none! I will never go back to the multi blade crap again!I purchased some of the famous feathers....and man they are sharp! But once again with a little TLC, the best shave EVER! I hated shaving until now.BUt will never look back. Thanks again Lee for your help and suggestions and service, outstanding! You have a customer for life! God Bless!

  10. No longer a safety razor virgin...

Posted by Eugene, San Francisco on 10th Feb 2009

I can't believe how easy and close this shaver is. It is without a doubt the closest shave I have ever - EVER - experienced. Not to mention: zero irritation, zero nicks, zero burn, zero zero...

I contacted Lee about a month ago to purchase a safety razor on a lark and he drove me (quite hard, I might say) to the HD. He was right and I am grateful that I listened to his wisdom and experience.

Between my pre-buyers jitters and an out-of-stock issue I just received the razor today. In preparation for this day I have been nursing a 4 or 5 day beard, which is to say pretty thick - never something that I could have tackled with a disposable 2, 3, 4 or 5 blade without first trimming ~1/8" growth down w/ my norelco clipers.

Per Lee's directions, I loaded the included blade (a Merkur - I also purchased the 4 blade demo pack - a review to follow soon...) bit the bullet, lathered up and started shaving. First pass - beard reduction, second lather & pass closest producing the closest, most comfortable shave ever!

The first thing to notice is the sound shaving makes - very, very different - took a few passes to get used to. Second, lather is really important - apply soap and ample warm water regularly to keep the lube between you & your blade comfortable. Third, keep your wrist pretty firm - loosy, goosy may work with a bic but don't get cute with a safety razor as it will undoubtedly bite you.

To be honest, I have a few half-whiskers around the lips and throat as admittedly I was a bit scared - but if the inaugural shave is any indication I will never waste my money on a disposable razor again.

    Thanks Lee
