The unctuous, stable foam is an excellent lubricant during shaving and rinses off easily. For best results use with a badger brush. May also be used without a brush: take a small amount and mix with water to make desired consistency.

This cream is like floating back in time. The scent is classic and not overdone. It works marvelously with my new badger brush. The container is large and the product should last a very long time. I love it!

My experience with this product was very similar to most of the other gentlemens comments. It presents almost like a soap but lighter and softer and, with a proper badger brush, you get a wonderful creamy lather that lubricates well yet allows an exceptionally close shave. The menthol, eucalptus, and camphor provide a very refreshing, medicated shave. Like others, I am getting over a year out of a tub. Just ordered another so I won't be without it. This is unusual because I normally like to try new products. It just doesn't get any better than this.

I was able to use the SMN this summer. While initially taken aback by the cost, I believe that you get your money's worth. The number of possible shaves is well above that received from almost every other product on the market. After using the SMN, I had the great fortune to use Tabula Rasa (also carried on this site) and liked it just as much on almost every dimension but at a more reasonable cost. BTW I wouldn't hurry to try either option. T&H and Trumpers are incredible products as well!

I had high hopes for this shaving cream. Unfortunately they didn't last long. I've used this product for about two months and it's not getting any better.
I don't speak Italian, but I presume Crema translates perfectly to Cream. Either I received a VERY old version of this cream or it's a soap. I actually have to put a few drops of water into the container just to be able to get a lather on even a wet silver-tipped badger brush. I get a half-way decent shave, but without a really rich lather it can only be so good.
I was rather surprised to find out that this product has an astringent quality to it; both in terms of scent and feel on my skin. I can get by the scent, but astringents tighten pores so it seems counter-intuitive that this would be used in anything but an after shave. That said, when I splash cold water on my face after shaving it's most definitely refreshing. It makes the water seem 20 degrees cooler than it really is.
I would've rated this product three stars, but considering the price had to knock it down one more. I'd rate this cream well below Truefitt & Hill (my benchmark), as well as The Art of Shaving (a cream I'm not a particularly big fan of).

I agree with the two previous reviews. Santa Maria Novella Crema da Barba is the best shaving cream that I have ever used. I was also skeptical when I started using it. It appeared to have less oil when compared to Trumper’s Soft Coconut Cream. It seems to provide more cushion though. I am able to shave the same area repeatedly without irritation and cuts, and am getting the closest, smoothest shaves every day. For me, SMN provides the missing link for getting my best shaves with my Merkur HD and Red Personna blades.

I recently ordered the Crema da Barba to try with my new safety razor. I was skeptical of whether or not it was worth the price, however, after using it a few times, I can honesty say that this will be the only shave cream that I will use in the future. It is easy to use with a badger hair brush. It feels good on my face and allows the razor to slide unabated. It really provides a very close and comfortable shave. It also has an excellent scent. The best shave creme that I have ever used in my 40+ years of shaving.

I've used dozens of products over the years and declare SMN the winner. I have the difficulty of a dark, heavy beard coupled with sensive skin, shaving in a dry climate and still find SMN to work marvelously. I use the product with a quality brush and would advise so. The standard tub lasts over a year and provides a high quality shave throughout. Worth the $50 +.
