Being fed up with the garbage shaves and irritation that comes with using cartridge razors and canned goo, I did some research and decided to try traditional shaving. I have sensitive skin and a very low volume of facial hair, but being from a military background, I try to maintain a clean shave at all times. I ordered this kit with the 34C razor, DRH Lavender soap bowl, and a pack of Derby blades. The DRH soap has a lovely scent which isn't overpowering, but certainly present. After refining my technique, whipping up a suitable lather is no problem at all. The 34C razor is sturdily constructed, feels solid in the hand and seems to be the perfect weight. I loaded up one of the Merkur blades that came packaged with the razor for my first couple shaves, and I managed to get a shave about as close as from a cartridge with less irritation than before, but still noticeable. I switched to the Derby blades that I had ordered and it was like magic! The closest baby smooth shave I've ever had with only the tiniest bit of irritation. I look forward to trying the blades from the DE sampler pack I also ordered, but overall I am extremely pleased. The set comes beautifully packaged, and looks great on the sink top. Lee, you have officially secured my future business. If you're looking to break into safety razor shaving, this is the kit for you!

I got this set a little over a week ago, and for the most part, I love it!
HOWEVER, I advise you NOT to buy the GFT Shaving Soap! GO for the DRH. The GFT provides a terrible lather that dissipates quickly and leaves you tracking a razor across nearly dry skin.
Aside from that, a great set for beginners, and after getting some new soap, I look forward to many close shaves with it :)

I ordered this set on July 21st. I received it just a little over a week later and I love it. I am a beginner and this set made it easy for me to transition from an electric razor to a safety razor. I am looking forward to ordering more from Lee.

Having never lived in a world where the Mach 3 wasn't the preeminent razor for teenagers discovering the need to shave, I had never put much thought into what whichever razor I was using at the time had been doing to my skin. Mach 3, Fusion, Electric...all typically left me with razor burn, ingrown hairs or lots of pimples.
I finally went all in after Christmas and picked up this beginner set with the 38C, DRH Lavender Cream and a collection of different blades to try out. Lee was responsive, providing me a wide collection of blades and lots of advice. It's been just over a month of using a DE razor, and while I am still getting the hang of it, I can say I have noticed a notable improvement in how my face is reacting after each shave and am more inclined to shave with a greater frequency than before. The lavender cream has a great smell and I look forward to picking up some other soaps/creams in the future.
The process has become less of a chore and more of an enjoyable daily ritual, as most others often describe their old fashioned shaves.
Looking forward to doing more business with Lee in the future (though I have enough blades for the next few years).

I just received my safety razor (ultimate beginner)and I cannot be more satisfied. Initially, I was a little anxious about using this razor as I am accustomed to the disposables with the $$$$ refill cartridges. Naturally, I thought I was going to tear my face apart. I was able to view several videos online as well as read some helpful articles found on the web. I am hooked, I love the ritual, the lathering up my face with the shaving cream, badger brush and bowl. It was amazing. The term that I learned from one of the articles was "beard reduction" meaning, to simply take a little bit of hair off with each deliberate stroke. Then lather up your face and repeat until the area is clean of whiskers. Following that advice, I am happy to say that I completed the task without cutting myself and was able to achieve the closest shaves I have ever experienced minus any irritation, razor burn or bumps.
I can honestly say that I am looking forward to my next shave, not only to experience this ritual again, but, also with a strong sense of pride to know that this was same way my grandfather would shave too.

My fiance told me he wanted a nice shaving set, but I wasn't sure where to go or what to get. After doing a substantial amount of research, I decided on this set and he loves it. I love how customizable it is! I went with the BIC razors and the DRH almond soap (which he seems to like using, looks nice and comes in a pretty wooden bowl, but definitely doesn't smell like almonds). It shipped quickly and was nicely packed, I'll be ordering from this site again. I've got my eye on an exfoliating pre-shave face wash for him :)

If you're confused and on the fence about which to get then add this one to your cart. I bought mine back in 2011 from Lee and it's served me well. I no longer have to buy those highly expensive 3 & 4 blade razor refills that tore up my skin. My only regret is not discovering this method of shaving sooner. There is a little bit of a learning curve but if you do some light reading you can figure it out quick. There are also a number of youtube vids out there that are great for beginners. Lee is also one of the most friendly and caring business owners I've ever met. He really goes out of his way to treat you right which is rare today. I recommend pairing the kit with the D.R. Harris Arlington scented soap and the Persona's.

This is my first wet shave kit and so far it's been great. I asked Lee to replace the razor that is included in the kit with a Merkur 20c razor which he had no problem with. He was quick and friendly and made the shopping experience much better and less stressful. I gave the review a 4 and not a 5 because the bottom of the stand rusted out already. THe stand is not he nicest stand and I was totally expecting that since this is a beginner set, but I would have hoped that it would have kept rust free for more than just 2 weeks. Even still I would recommend this kit to anyone just try and keep the stand away from water.

After 10-years of marriage using over-priced cartridge blade razors (2-blades, 3-blades, no 4-blades for extra-close shave!), my wife rates the shave with this "old style" razor the best since she's known me.
As far as the shaving experience goes, it's actually kind of fun. It's a nice routine with nice equipment, and something about it just feels right. Not to mention that you get all this at significantly lower cost per shave than the over-hyped, over-priced multi-blade replaceable cartridge razors.
